Who We Are

Works Construction is a state-licensed general contractor based in Grand Marais, Minnesota. We specialize in custom high-performance homes, passive house builds, energy retrofits, and maintenance services across Cook County and beyond.

Founded by Nathan Works with over 30 years of construction experience, our crew operates on three principles: precision in every detail, transparency with every client, and respect for the people doing the work. We build homes that perform. We need people who do the same.

Field / Onsite Project Manager

Full-Time | Year-Round · Northern Minnesota, multiple active job sites · Competitive pay based on experience

We are looking for a Field PM who can serve as the eyes and ears on the ground: someone who takes ownership of daily site progress, keeps crews moving, catches problems early, and communicates clearly so the Owner can stay focused on new work and client relationships.

What You'll Do

  • Walk all active sites each day. Verify crew is on task, materials are in place, and work is progressing per schedule.
  • Maintain and update project schedules.
  • Direct field crew daily.
  • Inspect work at each phase before it's covered up.
  • Submit a short end-of-day field note per project.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years in residential construction (custom homes, cabin renovation, or finish work preferred)
  • Experience supervising or leading a crew, even informally
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle
  • Smartphone proficiency; we use BuilderTrend for project tracking, scheduling, and communication

Construction Laborer

$22.00/hour (Review at 90 days) · Full-Time/Part-Time/Seasonal · Grand Marais, MN

This role is the backbone of our job sites, requiring physical toughness, a commitment to safety, and a desire to advance in the construction trades.

What You'll Do

  • Perform site preparation tasks including clearing, grading, and excavation support.
  • Assist skilled trades, including carpenters, masons, and electricians, as directed.
  • Operate hand and power tools (e.g., circular saws, drills, grinders) following strict safety standards.
  • Log all completed work in the Buildertrend daily log at the end of each shift.

Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry 75 lbs repeatedly and work outdoors year-round in Northern Minnesota conditions.
  • Minimum age of 18; valid driver's license preferred.
  • Must be willing to complete OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification within the first 30 days.

Advancement: Clear path to Carpenter's Helper, Lead Laborer, and Foreman roles.
